5 String Fortress 1 Strings - Recommendations

Hi

I should know the answer to this but I haven't played the Warkwick in a while so I went to Amazon to get some Warwick Black Label Stainless Medium Low 5-String Bass Strings.

The B string does not sit in the bridge sting holder very well. I mean, I can make it work but was wondering if anyone had some recommendations on similar strings that fit a lot easier than these.

My guess is this is about a mid nineties 5 string Warwick with the old bridge that is too narrow to fit standard gauge non-tapered strings. If this is the case I suggest having a look at this bridge or replace it in order to address the problem rather then the symptoms.
 
You can always do what I do which is use a pair of pliers to slightly crimp the string where it hits the bridge and the anchor. This is what I've done for years and never had a problem. Cheaper than buying s new bridge and safer than trying to file the bridge, etc down to make the string fit.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, Warwick strings do not always fit the Warkwick bass. The issue has been with B sting. The tapered strings have worked but this last set I tried was the first time I actually used the Warwick strings.

I won't assume anything here but it should be a easy swap to change out sting bridge?

In the meantime I'll use the pliers method with the current set I have now.

you could always buy the new 2013 and onward spec of the bridge tailpiece. not the entire thing, shouldn't be to expensive.
 
I can never get pliers to work - my poor hand just can't squeeze that steel wire. However, if you want to play flatwound, most 4-string sets will work, then put a tapered low B round wound on. It really sounds pretty decent to my old ears. But the best option is the fairly new wider bridge tailpiece. It must be popular as out local Warwick shop keeps running out of them.
 
The Warwick luthier here suggested using a Dremel but they cost three times what a new tailpiece costs. I was there last Friday and they were still sold out. Should get one within a week or so. Thanks.
 
I took a drill with a bit that was just a little wider than the slot, and let it rip.

Had to do this on my Spector Euro as well, so it`s not uncommon.

I use DR Hi-Beams, btw. Works great with wicks.
