2x12's?

I have been interested in upgrading my cabs for a while and move to a 2x12 setup. I have looked around but was not sure if Warwick ever made a 2x12. Does anyone have any insight to this?
 
Thanks for the heads up. Any experience with it?
 
While I don't have experience with it, I can read a specs sheet - IMO that cabinet isn't really meant to be used with anything other than the Hellborg rig, or maybe an all-tube amp, and I don't think it was meant to be used as a standalone.

It's tweeterless, but it has a whizzer cone so it takes care of a lot of the treble, just differently than a traditional cab would. But with it's impedance and very low power handling, I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a Hellborg or all-tube amp.

I have a Mesa 212 and think it's just great. It's a lot edgier and larger sounding than a 410, without being as slow on the uptake as a 15. It may be a little hard sounding when compared to a 410 for slap, and maybe a little tight when compared to a 115 for slap. My opinion though, I'm not into the whole slap thing.
 
I had a Hi Cab. It's not going to give you any lows. That's for sure. It doesn't have any punch to it, either. It's almost like a guitar cabinet.

+1 It's a GREAT cab to supplement the BigCab...but on its own, I've not been impressed.

That said...iirc, Florin DID like the HiCab by itself??? :) Can't remember what application he liked it though...
 
To me it had the nicest voicing of all Hellborg series. I use it in studio miked :-) It is a nice standalone too for soft jazzy tone, but you need to try before buy, it is too expensive to make experiments I guess...
 
Thanks for the feedback guys. I have heard good things about the Markbass 2x12 setup along with others that are stand-alone options. I wouldn't mind experimenting with a new setup and trying something out different.
 
Just keep in mind that the Hellborg 212 HiCab has 200W RMS power handling at 4 ohms. Most modern amps are designed to push 450-1200W through 4 ohms. Even an SVT would overpower it by itself.
 
I've been playing through the Hellborgs for about 5 years now. In that time I've had the Pre, the Mono 250, the Mono 500, the club cab, the big cab and the high cab.

I'm a heavy rock player, I ONLY use the hi cabs. I use the Pre, Mono 500 and 1 Hicab for smaller gigs, and 2 Hicabs for bigger gigs.

I LOVE the high cabs. Best cabs on the market for my money. Yeah they don't put out a lot of subs. I personally hate low subs on stage from a bass rig, they muddy everything up, interfere with bass drums, I'm happy with the FOH giving the subs. These cabs absolutely BARK in the mid range. They really cut through.

Definitely not everyone's thing...
 
I have tried the markbass NY212 in a shop, and its definitely on my to-buy list.....particularly after this weekend when I will have to lug my 98 pound carvin quad down an escalator to a gig :(.
It will be either that one or the larger, front ported 212 that MB do. The NY is very punchy, and a tad warmer than the MB2x10 I tried it with. and you can lift it with one hand! I only wish I could hire one to try with the band before shelling out over a grand....
 
Granted it's not lightweight, but Augie, if you looking anything like you do in your display picture, check out the Mesa one. It's like 74 lbs, but I find it really manageable, especially with the awesome Mesa casters. I can one-hand it, but I'm special, haha.
 
OR maybe find a SWR Bigfoot on the used market. I think it's one of the all-time great sounding 2X12s.

SWR stuff was so great, it's a shame they're shut down. Running a Grand Prix preamp and a Big Ben as a sub cab.

The Bigfoot is awesome, but it's a little outdated IMO - the power handling is a little low for a 4-ohm cab (although not as bad as the hi-cab). On most modern amps, you're only really able to run 4 ohms worth of cabs.
 
Yeah. Sad to see them shut down. Grand Prix was a sweet pre. Love that sound. I've been running the Big Foot with my Crown XLS 1500 bridged and it's been fine. I just don't hammer it too hard. ;). Currently running a Demeter pre.

Actually I look a lot like my pic, except for the traben and body hair of course. I have tried a mesa cab and loved it, but im really looking for lightweight. I love the sound from my quad, and will probably keep it. But im sick of the weight and bulkiness. and I drive the manliest of man cars- THE OPEL CORSA! so a big heavy cab is not much fun.
