2009 Rockbass Corvette Basic is stunning!

I'm flying to China for five weeks next week, and wasn't entirely comfortable taking my Ash 'Vette, so I just picked up a 2009 Honey Violin oil finish Rockbass Corvette Basic Active to take with me and be my travel bass.

I just wanted to say I am stunned at the quality of the 2009 Rockbasses...this bass is really nice...!!!

The contours of the body are a little different to the German Corvettes - only up close though...the edges are more rounded on the German Corvette - but I'm not ashamed to say that the build quality is excellent! Not quite the standard of my Ash 'Vette, but very good overall!

Same pickups of course...different preamp to it's big German brother - still sounds very nice...I'd be proud to play it anywhere.

...I've been playing this one a bit now.

A little too much relief in the neck for me, and the action a little high...after making some adjustments I now know why - it was as low as it would go. There are some high frets on the board, and there's some annoying rattles in a few spots when the action is how I like it.

It's not horrible fretwork - I've seen far worse, but it certainly could use a fret dressing. This is certainly a distinct difference between the Rockbass and the German Warwicks I've had - they've all played like buttah straight out of the box. This one should get there, but will take a little work.



So - anyway, for not much more than the price of a fret dressing, I've ordered the tools I need to do it myself from StewMac, so I'll use this as a learning process too - I'm confident in general setup work, but haven't dressed frets before, so this should be fun!
