who said theres going to be 2008 amps???

i like the sound of this :wink:
 
I seriously doubt it. The JH system came out in 2007, that should keep people happy for a long while!

As far as I know, they're releasing new ProFet models. 3.3 and 5.2. I don't know what's new about them tho.
 
As far as I can see, the only difference is that the new ProFet`s has "adapted volume control" in addition.
 
We just made some changes to some of our standard stock amps. Released some of them in 230V, for example.

We've made some improvements:
- Now the amps have more amplification gain for the same rated power. It means... the profet 5,2 will be louder than the 5,1.
- The compressor is even better now :-)
- Sweet 25.1 has now 300 W, which is great! I always considered 300 W as the minimum requirement for gigs and rehearsals with a rock band.

have the x-treme and tubepath head also been updated? (or are they already perfect? :wink: )

The compressor is EVEN better now???
sorry mate, but the compressor of the profet 5.1 was very dissapointing for me. it didn´t safe the amp from clipping, even when it was at it maximum.

Hey Beda, I have a profet right here in my room just tested it one more time. First of all this is a compressor not a limiter. To be a usable a musical compressor has a soft knee, and medium attack and release settings. I see the red light clipping, but I don't hear a distorted amp. To my ears the compressor is working pretty good, and what I really like is that the compression is soft and musical, not " LOOK MOM, I'VE GOT A COMPRESSOR" hard, pumping shitty compressor that ruins yer sound.

So... consider please that your whole profet 5,1 costs less than a decent compressor. In this conditions, I hear a nice, clean, good compression, if you set it right. Really I've heard pedal compressors worse than this one. So for an entry level amp like Profet, the compressor works really good.
And the Profet 5.2's compressor is EVEN better.

you know too much for me man ;-)

but one more question: when i look at the compressor of my svt 6 pro, it really works like i want it to work. it saves the amp from clipping and does not kick in too late.
how come? is it a limiter then?

I don't know much about SVT 6 onboard compressor...

Really Again... the SVT 6 is a top of the line product, while the Profet is entry level, so it is not fair to compare them hat way,
And to reply strictly to your question... many manufacturers are making"Bass compressors" with hard knee, peak compressor, and very fast attack. This kind of compressor will act very fast, and if you set it with higher ratio, it will prevent anything from clipping. But it will also prevent your bas to be heard :-)
That's why I never use such compressors. For me the ideal compressor is Soft Knee, RMS compressor, and I never use the fastest attack setting.
That way you will hear your natural attack too.

In general, a well set compressor for bass is very transparent and gentle, like... you almost don't feel like you have one there.Just you will feel it in the band context as the bass will be more steady, and it will balance an unbalanced instrument.

Of course, there are also exceptions to the rule, but really the compressor is a very tricky device, and to use higher compression rates, and fast attack settings, you need in the first place a very good professional compressor, and second you need more controls than just one button, otherwise it will pump. . The compressor on the profet is not as good, nor the compressor on ampeg SVT 6 pro...

I don't use a compressor anymore, because I feel like any device linked to the JH rig is a blasfemy... But when I did... my settings were in the same way that it was never preventing the amp form clipping if I was hitting the strings hard. This is the right hand's job really.
The compressor is not a device to compensate an uneven playing, if you use it like that it wil ruin your sound. You should use the compressor in a creative way, to obtain a desired sound or sustain, not to fix a problem.

You can still use an extra limiter, and set it in a way that it will not work in normal playng, just to cut the realy loud notes.
