Hallo!

I've just had this bad surprise: today I picked up my beloved SSI (with a 1 year old Mec preamp on) and no sound was coming out from the amp. I tried to hit strings hard, and some kind of noisy, distorted farts (Gee! that's tragically funny! :-)) were produced. I tried to replace battery, nothing changed. I put the bass in passive mode, and everything was alright.

So, the preamp is gone. Is there any simple way, DYI solution I might try, or should I bring the SSI to a technician?

It is really sad that the electronics got broken after little more than one year, anyway...

Thank you all, guys! Suggestions are very welcome!

Hi Pico,

Ouch... I am sad to hear that!!! I am afraid we cannot give you advices without seing it. But first thing that crosses my mind in this sudden death case, is a broken wire. Try to move stuff inside, and look for a loose wire.

If it is one year old you should have warranty

I agree with Flo - I think some break in the connection to the preamp is more likely than the preamp itself dying. That kind of distortion is exactly what you can get if a connection is not as strong as it should be.

I think you guys are right, in fact I tried to move stuff in there and I got the sound back for like 15 seconds... I would like to try to fix it myself, but the amount of wires is amazing! I probably need to take it off the cavity and find out the responsible of those horrible farts. Schlobodan, you are right, but I guess I should have to send the elecrtonics back to Germany and wait quite a bit of time, so I think I will try to fix it first.

Next week I'll be trying. I'll keep you up to date.

Cheers!
