1986 streamer pickup needs replacement

Hi from Italy,
I'm very new to this forum and to the warwick world, from 1980 I've played only fender et similia.
Last week I bought a wonderful Streamer, Schaller 3D bridge, straight tuners, and so on, serial L600 year 86, this is written on the upper side of the peghead.
Everything seems fine, the neck is very comfortable to me but the pickup P (the configuration is P/J) on the side of the E and A strings seems damaged on its cover and the volume of the E string is nearly the 50% compared to the other strings.
So I'm thinking to replace the pickup but disassembling the pickup I've noticed that this is, of course, an old Emg, not the newer with the computer-like connector. Opening the preamp "room" on the rear of the body reveals a circuit without these new connectors, everything is soldered
Any suggestions?

By the way this bass is marvelous and with so many harmonics, I'm totally sold on it.

Uou need to post pictures, you know ...

Anyway, what is the problem? You buy new pickups, and solder the wires as they are now. You have 3 wires for a pickup red, black and ground, so it is not a big deal :)

Ok, this could be less difficult than I was think to, but I'm not an expert.
By the way with a restrung (DR 45-105) and setting an higher action the problem seems to be reduced, right now the E, D and G strings are balanced and have nearly the same volume, not so the A, that has more volume respect to the others. Maybe I could say that A and D have more volume than the E and G.
Pickup measured with a tester, the results are correct.
It's very strange, maybe is the character of this bass, I don't expect the same sound of a fender-like, ok, but this thing is strange.
It's not a matter of dead notes, is more a dead string issue.
By the way the DR set is fresh new so I don't think to a string failure.
I have a Pbass with an EMG, I'll deinstall it from the P and I'll install it into the Streamer.
I'll let you know.

Are you always playing through the same amp/cab in the same room? Sometimes certain frequencies can be 'naturally' amplified/cancelled by characteristics of the amp, cab and or room environment. I often have what I would call 'bloom' on the note 'B' (7th fret E string or 2nd fret A string, so not fertboard or string dependant) of one of my basses, where the note swells after it is played, no other notes do this! I found that by tweaking my amplifier EQ (this is where semi-parametric EQ is much better than a fixed frequency slider), I could calm down this 'bloom' which I assume is a characteristic of that bass and my cabs. It could be that you have something similar?
 
Also, sometimes new strings, even DR, can have a bad string...

The string volume is depending on the distance between the string and the pickup, so maybe the A string is too high compared to the others.
 
Thanks for the suggestions, I know these strangeness due to the room response, (I remember an F# in a bar/restaurant....something near to an earthquake...) by the way I have a little personal studio with Neumann, Millennia, Rme and so on, so I checked the bass and nothing is wrong about it.
I think at a different character compared to Fender style.
The low freq control in the bass seems centered on the A string, and this could be the main reason of the apparently unbalance of the freqs of my Streamer, because I'm playing it with a little amount of lows and a slight turn down of the highs.
Actually the low freq control is very effective on this bass, and tailored not to the extreme low freqs, that to me is a good thing. I have a Sadowsky with a 40 Hz lo freq control, that it seems to me so exaggerate, maybe it depends on the musical genre.

By the way this instrument is very good, and a rare pleasure to play, not to mention that with its 24 frets I can finally play Nigerian marketplace (O.Peterson).
BUT, yeah I'm a Fender one and I'm afraid to enter into a world so different. It's a matter of how you can play with an instrument.
Crazy? For sure, but I (try) to play jazz and you know it's a matter of improvisation and player personality.
So a little difference, to say in the neck dimensions or in the strings action, turns to be enormous, and I'm not a pro, so I haven't an arsenal of ammunitions in my pocket, like a seasoned jazz bass player.
So I'm thinking to sell this bass, could be a mistake to keep it in the closet.

It's a different beast to a passive fender that's for sure. But boy you managed to get a good looking warwick! If you persevere you may get used to it! :)

I own the same streamer stage one L597 86 and I want to know if the frets are original...it looks more silver than gold
My 2005 SS1 doesn't have the same frets and it looks like gold

Silver is cool I think change to bell brass in 87?

Sascha is right, we are using the bell brss frets since 1987.
