i've a 1990 jack bruce signature warwick thumb ... can i wire this for 18 volts without blowing up the preamp or worse?

No clue, but how about posting some pics? Don't see many of those here...
 
JR,

If it's currently wired (and designed) for 9 Volts, you run a great risk of damaging the preamp by doubling the applied voltage. I wouldn't attempt this. I'd suggest finding a Warwick preamp that was designed for 18-volt operation and swapping out the old one. Otherwise, you're on thin ice.

I would probably put in an 18V Aguilar preamp, one of the best there is IMO / mats
