What is the tonal difference between maple, ash, and alder? I notice there are no ash or alder necks (that I know of) but there are maple, ash, alder bodies.

I now have a job so im starting to save up for a "flagship" bass for myself, one that I can settle on for the rest of my life. Since the neck on my proline will feel the same as the three models in question, im really just curious as to what each bass sounds like in comparison to the proline...

What do you think if the Custom Shop put a small text (with tonal properties, preferable use for top or body, etc.) beside every wood type in the CS Options? That way it'd be easier to find out about the perfect woods to use for your next CS bass... Rob
