phasing

hi. i have 2 passive lefay soapbar humbuckers. from every pickup, there comes a black cable that contains one blue wire, one white wire, and one blank wire without jacket. now, i think white is hot, blue is ground, right ? but what is that blank wire for ? and my second question...
