driving

Hi, had the tubepath 5.1 for a week or so now, and the pro 411 should be arriving today (yay!) I hear aolt espically from guitarist about drving the tubes on thier amps to get a better sound, like being able to make them work harder from the Gain or Master... is this true? And if so...
