Do you have your amp settings set up for all your basses or do you have different settings for different basses?

MY QUESTION IS: If I would buy an 500 W amp [head], I will must have 1000 W speakers? Someone told me that the speakers always must be twice bigger in W than the amp. Is this a correct information? Thank you!
