attenuate

hi fellow dwellers of the deep. my question is can you or should you use an attenuator/power brake with an solid state amp for bass,reason i ask is will you get any more sound characteristic from driving much more output for smaller venue's/gigs...amp in question is trace elliot solid state combo..?
