Hey guys,

Havn't posted here in a while, hope things are well :)
So this year, 3 of my Warwick Machineheads have broken off my Warwick Rockbass. The pole where the string wraps around has broken at the base of it so theres no grip between the gears if that makes sence. This has happened on all of them.

I managed to replace the first 2 by getting a mate of mine to buy me one from Dominant, and the other I bought a Hipshot Xtender key. Now I'm having the trouble of knowing whether the machinehead is left or right. It's a right hand 4 string RB Corvette and it's the D string which needs replacing. Is this left or right?

I know, simple question, just dont wanna order the wrong one from either the Warwick shop site or Dominant!

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Sorry to hear about your problem, mate!

they look the same to me

it's just that here on the forum I heard at least 3 times that the tuner broke - unbelievable, I have some wicks and the tuning pegs are great.

To me it sounds like different materials are used or something

it is left isn't it?

You look at the headstock from the front, so (B), E & A are left, D & G (C) are right :)
iirc there was an QA issue with a batch of tuners. The supplier ♣♣♣♣ed up.
WW's & RB's have the same tuners.

the newer tunners are the cheapest used so far the older ones were better i think schallers are nice and the older ones looked more like grovers the new ones look like gotohs i have takn my rb apart and the tunners look just like the ones on my german vett all the markings ae the same but thats the problem with stuff from china the material used can get iffy ure some nice stuff imade but for the most part stuff from china is junk, sorry if anyones offended but i see it all the time with products from china.where i work we started getting brake drums from china and all sorts of problems started never had it when they came from canada.just making santa hats some one bought the china glue and it worked like crap went and bough elmers and all the problems we were having stopped.a guy a work with is fom china and he won't buy anything made there to cheap he says spend the money once on a well made product and you don't have to spend it again.

James, they're "tuners" mate. Tuner. Like the fish, but with an er instead of an a.
Not, "tunners". There's only 1 n ;)
Just a friendly tip mate. Try to use a little punctuation if ya can. You got alotta very usefull info to share, but it's sometimes a little difficult to understand. :)

Back to the topic at hand.
Warwick, like all manufacturers, dont make their own tuners & other hardware. This sorta stuff is made by supplier companies like Schaller, Grover, ABM, Hipshot, Dunlop, etc.
Older Warwick's tuners were made by Schaller. iirc the current tuners are made by ABM, but I might be wrong on that little detail. It could even be Grover or Dunlop, or maybe someone else. It sometimes makes me laugh when I read someone praising the parts of one brand bass, & slamming another, when they're actually from the very same factory.
When parts like this fail, it reflects poorly on the instrument brand that bares it's name. After all, it's got a W stamped on it.
Basically, sometimes parts (like people) fail to meet their expectations. That's why we have warranties & spare parts for our toys, & the kind act of forgiveness for our fellow human beings.
Maaaaann I'm deeeep!

its ok i know when you can't see a person you forget there condition like i said i'm not complaning .and the only reason i put myself throught the effort is i like the people here, and if you don't push yourself you never advance.my doctors told me for the size of the stroke i shouldn't be doing as good as i am.the fact i can walk surprise them.and my left hand still does what it wants.but on a plus side they said play bass is good for me.but i still cant do hammer ons or pull offs just basic straight 8ths but it's getting better to.so no hard feelings from me greg it's all good.

James you 're a real trooper and I think I speak for all of the members saying we'd like you around as much as possible. Although I was about to write the exact same thing like Greg when I read your punctuation-less post, it was like your full stop key broke. :)

i drive my wife nuts now,i'll ask the same question five time in a row because i don't remember asking it.or the answer.and seeing small things is hard.on a plus side i don't watch to much tv as i get a headach from it ,.but i have seen my cat scand and mri's and they don't look pretty.but on a good note ,i had one doctor tell me i have seen your chart and you shouldn't look as good as you do ,been almost a year now.my typing wasn't to good before and it realy took a hit.i can't remember where any of the notes on the fret board are and even after i figure it out it sails right back out.when i first got home and tried to play i couldn't do anything, and i thought crap i'm i trouble.but i try to play as much as i can every day.and its coming along.

+1000 to that. I, for one, really appreciate your contributions James, and when I think of how much effort they cost you, I am just knocked out. I have a huge amount of respect for you pal!

I'm reporting in that this is the 3rd time my machine heads have broken. And once at a gig. Once had me concerned, twice had me a little upset, and this third time, well, now I'm a little hesitant to even play my bass in confidence at a gig. It's a 2004 LTD FNA Jazzman. I feel like this shouldn't happen on a top of the line bass.

All three times the same thing has happened. With no warning the tunning peg of the machine head completely strips off from the base of the machine head leaving the bass absolutely useless until further repair. I was going to order 1 new machine head but now I only see it as reasonable that I order replacements for each string because I'm certain this won't be the last time these break again. Yes, I'm angry. Warwick users beware.

With all that being said. Does anyone know where I can easily order machine heads here in the United States? Thanks for your help.

Contact the New York Custom Shop.(Tyler Krupsky)
Replace all 4 tuners to be sure.
Most Warwick owners, many with multiple basses, never experience this & it's very unfortunate it's happened to you 3 times.
Any Warwick dealer can provive the tuners you need, but I recommend the NYC custom shop coz you're more likely to receive absolute prompt service. Be sure to let them know the story.
Also, if you have time, let us know here how you get on.
