My thumb nt5 from 2002 had cracy neckdive and was unplayable when standing up.
I always leave my basses to GnuLars here in sweden. So when i saw the idea here on the forum i left the bass in his hands.
This is the result and it exceeded my expectations by far and i can reset the mod if i want.
The mod also moves the body "backwards" so it's much easyer reaching 1st fret.
Sry for my bad english.

Thanks to Lars for the pictures.

Thanks for sharing this! Very cool idea. It's also almost invisible, if wearing a black shirt or jacket like the picture. Classy.

I've personally never had issues with the neck dive on my Thumbs. Don't know if it's because of my arm length, body shape or how high I have it up on my body. I even put extra weight on my '04's headstock (Gotoh tuners & brass JANIII) and I didn't notice it one bit. Believe me though....I know it exists, because if I let go of the the Thumb, it falls like all the rest. Guess that left arm weight training as a kid came in handy :p I also tend to live between the 3rd and 15th frets...so that probably helps me.

All that being said though....I'd still love to try something like this.

Nice Thumb btw :)

Seems like an awful lot of leverage against a tiny, shallow hole on a small horn. I wouldn't do it.

Good luck!

Here is another possibility to fight neckdive:

The benefit is that you don't have to do any irreversible mods on your instrument.

(Sorry for my bad painting, but I hope you know what I mean.)

Just long your strap.
Then use a belt, sling, shoelace, whatever to tighten your strap.
The bass will hang in front of your belly in a fixed position.

The minus is that you have to open the sling before you set the bass aside.

The other solution package could be:

A wider strap at shoulder position.
A different material for the strap. Like inside-raw-leather.

Your current strap looks too thin and slippery.

If This helps I like a bottle of whine :)

^ This right here....But I do like that extension mod moves the body back at little

These strap-hinds work very well, if your arms are long enough (reach 1st fret) and you wear the thumb in higher position, close to your body.
So do I, and the handling works fine for me.

Otherwise, the horn-extension or the sling could be helpful.

depends on who's asking
I saw somewhere, I think it was on youtube, a simple solution to neck dive while standing. I never tried it, but you might want to. The idea was to run your strap under your pants belt, thereby applying a good bit of friction to the strap. I would imagine belt material and tightness would be a factor. It might work for some people.

For a minute there I thought the idea was for the strap to go under your pants.
