No! Its Rio Rosewood, certificated. 84 yes. An early one. (New hardware and pickups, 2way Glockenklang preamp) No serial.
Hard to tell from the pics because the neck wood is very dark. I have a fretted rosewood like yours (probably earlier) and a fretless No 190, and that is wenge. Warwick changed the neck wood because rosewood was too soft, causing 'twisted' necks. See the difference below.

Hey! Yes, thanks! Its Wenge, the other is Rosewood. I know to decide between Wenge and Rosewood. Trust me. Its Rosewood. (I owned 6 Nobbys. Today 5. The 26 frets gone with a Wenge neck. The others are Rosewood with Rosewood necks. There are some reasons to go to Wenge. Sure. I love the Rosewood necks much more! ;-) )

My Rio Rosewood Nobby has no serial. I think its a really early one. He has never a serial! I got him as an raw piece of wood with frets. I rebuild him 2 years ago. They use only in the first years Rio Rosewood in some basses. The wood was not very expensive in this times. But the well known problems with twisted necks are horrible. There are not more than max. 35 around. Do you know why they go to Wenge? I do.

I would also ask for pictures of the electronics!
Hello together, love to be a new part of this Nobby-Meidel-Club!
I purchased the Nobby on willhaben.at a few days ago during my holidays in Austria. The Instrument spent nearly 40 years as a workhorse in various tyrolian "volkstümliche" folk-Bands, but is in rather good condition. It sounds GREAT!! I´m going to play it at some Biergarten-Gigs in the munic Region next weekend. Pics will follow! I´m really looking forward to your comments!

It´s up to you, guys!
Following @Hoggles research work, it seems to be a Version 4...
Can you tell me the year? 1983? And roundabout what serial number could it be? Are all parts original? The stand is missing, but a new one will arrive this week...
And please let me now if I should have bought some chinese copy...

I was told this nobby was purchased in the early 1980ies and was played since then in a number of austrian folkbands. The neck is a liiittle s-shaped, but I managed it with a little higher action on the E-String, now works very well.

Thanks for your comments!

Lovely Nobby!! Only the potis were exchanged, the aPUs and their cables look original. A late '83 maybe?
Here is a picture of the electronics from my all Rio '83 Nobby

Hello everyone ......

now some information about my good piece ... .. I bought it around 1983 or 1984 from a musician in the Aachen area. , if I remember correctly, he had bought from a music store what the bass had bought directly from the Frankfurt trade fair….

It would have to be one from the third series: white, recessed cover plate, round buttons, passive schaller pick-ups ………

All accessories were included: the stand, the brass holder, the bag for the bass and the accessories (I haven't taken any photos there yet

the seller had built a second stand for the rehearsal room, painted red, maybe someone will recognize it again ..?

The plate without a number is also special, but it looks official, does anyone know anything more precise?

Since the bass was always played as a working men's bass, and not exactly cared for and treated well, that's why the other holes for different straps are on the back side….

I also drove the bass to the gigs on my back on my motorcycle because it was very transportable. And because the main bass amplifier only belonged to the band at that time, I didn't think it was bad that the previous owner had installed a headphone amp with a 9 volt battery in the electronics compartment, so I could practice at home without an amp ......cool !

Maybe I'll take a photo of the electronics compartment during the day, maybe a specialist can still see something ... ..?

It would have to be a very early bass… ..and I really played it mostly in a dixieland band in the Ruhr area in the 1980s …… not a joke !!!!
