I have one question on the Nobby Meidel:
Given the exposure of the fragile tuners, does anyone of you guys have a tip on which case (mark) could be used best for transport?? Could fit a flight case, but they are quite heavy.
My one came naked.

Yeah, the tuners are very exposed and prone to damage. I have the original grey bag it came in, though I've also seen one being sold together with the grey bag and the 1st ever flight case Warwick used...the orange one. Makes me think that HP and crew were using both out of the factory, for a while at least.

Check out the case @Chris90 has, a few posts above. Smaller case with a custom fit insert. You could also order some high density foam, for the case you have yours in. That way you could leave it in a hard case, without the full flight case weight.

As an example, I put new foam in my JD Thumb's original orange case a little while ago. Came out great. "Firm" foam on the bottom, "regular" foam in the lid. The trick for cutting it perfect, are those cheap electronic meat carving knives. 10€ or so. As for the grey foam, you can order it through specialty shops online. Fairly cheap.

Thanks a lot, I may also look into shorter guitar case like gator. Have to measure what's feasible; and add foam to keep it tight.
We pushed to post to the 2nd page - hurray!!

I am really happy with my Nobby!!
But I figured out that s.o. was experimenting (souldering?) with the (Alembic?) electronics. The Almbic PUs sound fantastic but the logic has gone: PJ balance is reversed; further, when turning balance to the J, the P remains (doesn't go silent); and the P has far too much power. All together the output is much, much higher than any of the other Warwicks.
Any ideas about fixing, or is it better to replace with Glockenklang 2-band stacked, or any other electronic ??
Thanks for your thoughts.!!

Not sure how to fix, other than trying to switch it back to the original wiring path. It would be a bummer to have to swap out anything original.

Hi Hogg,
I checked with the colleagues at the Alembic club, and switched the cables from the PUs at volume and balance to realise: these are TWO volume pots. :D
In addition the Alembic system has a trim-level at the tone poti, which is adjusting the overall preamp output. And the P is very, very powerful.
So afterall an unusual configuration for an unusual bass. No need for any changes to the electronics, but a need to better understand my new bass!!

Sorry Stainless... Didn't see this from a month ago :)

The Nobby guitars are cool. The only rumor I've seen (no idea if true), is there were 30 made and half were lost in a fire or something. Could be completely untrue, dunno. Maybe a question for father Wilfer to verify.

I also don't know exactly where they fit on the original Nobby timeline. All the ones I've seen (your pic isn't loading for me), have Wenge necks, which leads me to believe they started later '83 - '84. #5 was selling in the States a few years back. Wenge neck, Rosewood wings, Ebony board.

Here is how it looks like :)

This one was build in 1984 and never finished. Perhaps it is one that was rescued before the fire ;)

Hi Steel,
The screw must be off the shelf. Why don't you measure. I'm sure a hardware store should have them. Are you located in Europe?

Hi Brusselsbass
Thanks for your reply
That’s what I thought as well, but no store could supply it. Got a stainless one that was close, but the head was far too large.

I did play the last 2 hours in the RealBook, and I have to say - this neck plays like heaven. Love it, and the best is the other side is naked

A new Nobby Meidel arrived in my home: early model, no number plate.
The seller told me they are Shadow pickups, @Chris90 thinks they are Schallers. One day I'll take them out to check .

@Chris90 made me an almost irresistible offer for a "Mystery Nobby", but I shook hands for the one I'm presenting before - maybe he'll share here on the forum !!

Very pretty!! That's with active electronics and a passive tone blend?? The brass extender is fairly short (around the 30th position ?) - mine go to the 12th position.
And I love the fretboard !! It is macassar not ebony right??
:) thank you.

yes, the previous owner obviously shortened the brass extender..I ve got an original one too.

The fretboard is really extremely nice!! According to HPW it is "tiger stripe ebony".

However, I do agree...maybe some other wood..

Unfortunately, I am definitively no "fretless player"..no talent whatsoever.:oops:
