    Hi,

Having issues in the past with some 9 volt batteries leaking, I wanted to know if the backup 9 volt battery that came with my 2017 Thumb NT 5 is subject to leakage. I’ve never used it and it’s still tightly packaged in plastic wrapping, but I don’t know if I ought to leave it in the accessory binder in the gig bag.

I’ve heard that the newer lithium ion Energizer batteries won’t leak, and am considering putting one of those in the gig bag instead.

    Any thoughts on this?

Get a new one, they just cost a few bottle caps.

    Oh, hi Hardy-

Which one, the battery or the bass?

But seriously you know how infrequently used items can get out sight and out of mind, and before you know it, gear gets ruined or marred by battery leakage-

I mean the bass, this is how I do it!

No, actually I buy a package of 20 9v batteries every two years and I change them in my basses. The old once I use for my metronome and my BuzzTard to power the LEDs.

I see, but my Thumb came with the newfangled internal rechargeable lithium ion battery with a USB connection on the backplate. The complimentary 9 volt came with an adapter just in case the main battery was dead.

Here you see the new Energizer lithium 9 volt in the bag with 9 v adapter. Just to the right is the Vinnic 9V HD battery that Warwick sent from the factory. Also to the right is the USB charging cable for the internal lithium ion battery.

Reposting pics for those who might be curious what comes with the Custom Shop basses with active electronics. They have a built-in lithium battery that's charged via a standard USB A/B cable seen on the right. They also supply a complimentary 9v battery and adapter in case you're at a gig and the main battery goes dead-

Note the 9v Lithium battery I switched in the bag with the adapter cable, because I wasn't sure if the Vinnic might leak over time.

I usually just toss the Vinnics. I think they're the cheap, low capacity, "heavy duty" type and I always just throw in an Alkaline. Surprised W is still using those.

Maybe I should say, I'm not surprised they're still using those
