this is a reincarnation of the original group I started that seemed to not make it very far. If you like nuts (NHS), play a P-Nut bass or intend to be getting one, post here!

I will post a pic of my twin beauties soon enough once I move house.

Can this get a sticky by chance?

I am actually thinking more and more to unstick the other ones... Too many sticky ones are not good, it becomes hard to find the new posts in the other topics...
And we have already too many sticky topics IMHO.

Anyway, this thread does not exist without pics :)

I would have loved if the prototype had been the final P-nut II! Not that the current version sounds bad or anything (I've tried it), but I already have a Warwick with J/MM pickups, and it would be nice with variation too!

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the j pickups what gives the Stage II that crunchy sound, apart from the woods.

P-nut II owners, chime in here, and tell med the difference!

What are the tonal differences between the P nut Streamer and a normal Streamer, it seems like they have the thumb angled pickups in one of you pictures

What do you want't to have recorded?

I am thinking about a comparison recording of
4 fivers

SS1 SS2 P-Nut 1 P-Nut 2
;-)
I hav no Thumb 5 so ... it has to be streamers only.

The Lakland Page offers recordings of the 55-02 in different styles.
IMO that gives a very good impression.

But the lakland recordings are fully instrumented, which would be a lot of work.

That comparison would be perfect. I'd say, just record the same simple fingering line, and the same simple slap line on each bass set flat, in all different pickup modes.

Sam,

I have both a '94 Stage II 5-string with wenge neck & the P-nut II Streamer you've seen on this forum.

The woods definitely make a big difference IMHO. The body woods on the P-Nut two sound softer, not as tight/compressed as on the Stage II.

The P-Nut is more powerful sounding (higher output) because of the pickup configuration. It's both a little snappier on the high end (I think because of the ebony board) as well as deeper in the lows both unplugged & plugged in & as I mentioned before, with softer lows & a smoother high end. The Stage II has a clearer low end but not as phat & it also has more low mids & high mids with more forceful sounding pops when slapped. In my opinion the Stage II sounds better slapped than the P-Nut II does. Both models have their strengths though.

The Stage II tone is what can be heard on 311 discs like Grassroots, Transistor, & Soundsystem whereas the P-Nut II Streamer's tone is a lot like the tones you hear on some of 311's newer discs.

Both basses have excellent tone, just different. Hope this helps.

By the way, if any one's interested, my P-Nut II is for sale in the bass classifieds on this forum.
