They changed the preamp for Pro-M and Mastermans in the later years from the Seymour Duncan with bass/treble for each side of the pickup (so you have 3 stacked pots) to MEC with just one bass/treble potmeter. (One stacked pot)
My old Pro-M was from 98 too and had the same setup.
I massively prefer the Seymour Duncan over the MEC, because you can get a LOT more sounds out of the single pickup.
I've been told that before, but I've recently talked to someone who has a 2000 Streamer Pro-M with the factory 3 stacked pots. So can you provide any info to verify this, because it bugs me. I've even asked Hans-Peter Wilfer and he couldn't give me a straight answer. I too, prefer the 3 stacked pots like my Masterman and was gutted to get my Pro-M and found it only had the 1 stacked pot.
