No, it ain't stock. Warwick was so kind put a thumbrest on it on request. I can only repeat: great company!

I like that radical instrument
But I' m asking to myself where to find a "real" alien 6. Probably the Deluxe 6 is great, but I can' t locate a dealer that have a high grade alien 6... Any idea ?

you need to order it through a warwick dealer or the web shop here (list price :/)

Did anyone test and compare the Alien against the Alien Deluxe? I am guessing the main difference would be the bridge and high notes access. The woods aren't that different and all the rest is the same.
Sound and feel, would it be that much of a difference?

After trying quite hard to sell my Alien, I now have a job for it, so it stays!
However, I'd like to ask all you Alien owners, particularly those with a metal tailpiece: how far can I reduce the bridge saddle height before I compromise the break angle and get poor sound? I love the bass, but the action is a little high for my taste (and my wimpy fingers!)
Any help much appreciated!

Hi Den, it is hard to tell without seeing the bass. An acoustic bass needs a higher action, that's for sure! So I guess 3- 3,5 mm action for E string is normal...

Forgive me if I'm excluding 4-string Alien owners, but I recently acquired an acoustic bass guitar (granted not an Alien), and long story short, I put these strings on it:
They feel amazing, are super pliable, give me a perceived increase in volume (vs dead bronze strings), and should never die. They do roll a bit (like a nylon string), but this should not affect fretless vibrato, and they sound great on my fretted ABG. Since they're flatwound, you'll avoid a large amount of that annoying ABG clack and string noise.
They're quite expensive, but if you're mulling over Thomastik Jazz Flats or Acousticores, it's in the same realm. Thought I'd hip you guys to this!

Just got this lovely bass for a very good price from a professional musician, he seemed to have cared for it altough not using it heavily. From what I found out online, this should be one of those early german builds mafe by Lakewood with Lakewood/AER electronics. Strangely though, it does not have any serial number of any kind (I saw some with engraved numbers on the top side of the headstock) - I will make a seperate post for this, maybe some Warwick employee knows?
Anyway, apart from some minor things this bass feels and sounds very good (given the short I own it), and eg the wooden binding and stuff are really awesome.

Some questions for the alien owners
When did they stop making the pointy lower bout?
Were they only the original batch by Lakewood?
Ive just seen AME's 6ixer above so they obviously made 5 + 6 string versions. What year are these and where were they made?
Anyone thinking of selling one?
What is the bridge string spacing ?

Aliens have pointy lower bouts. Rockbass versions do not. This is another example of the confusion putting a 'W' on the headstock of a Rockbass instills.
I'm not positive, but I do not believe Lakewood made 5/6 string versions. The rosewood soundhole surround and thumbrest are also exclusive to Lakewood, I believe.
5/6 string spacing is the usual 16.5mm.
