The chrome tone basses have chrome-coloured pickups. Is it only chrome paint over the plastic cover or an actual metallic cover?

    Just wondering...

I wonder how they do the chrome finish on the basses. Or the pups for that matter, if it's the same as how plastic model parts are chrome plated I could see the pups losing their shine very quickly.

I always thought Chrome Tone basses would look better if the fretboard was covered in the "chrome" too. Is that an option? Or would that have to be a CS addition?

It would... The Chrome Tone is a bolt-on, so the neck is not chromed, as would be the case in a NT chromed bass. The fingerboard is not chromed in either version...

The fingerboard can be finished in hi-polish finish, but I'm not sure that it is possible to have it in chrome...

The reason I say this is that chromed metal is electroplated, you can't do that with plastic or wood since you can't set up an electric charge in a resistor. Chromed plastic kit parts wear and scratch REALLY easily. It also peels badly when it gets scratched.

The ONLY alternative I've seen is Alclad paint, it looks really good. No resilience however. I wouldn't want to paint a bass body with it.
