Hi everybody, new member form Sweden here. Long time Warwick user though =)

Having some issues with the pickup height on my 5 string Jazzman (2001).
Seems like the humbucker is troubling the intonation if the pickup is to close to the strings but if I lower it the output is really changed (lowered I should say). Any recommendation for these pickups? 2,5 mm at the moment. Recommendation for the J neck pick is also appreciated.

Then my second question. Every now and then as I change the battery I get curious of the two blue trim pots on the back of the circuit board. Someone told me that it has to do with the mid-controll of the 3.band EQ. So i played around with it. Not sure anything happened at all with the sound. Anyone else who knows what this is, how it can be used? Have I destroyed my bass completely by changing this?

Thanks!

/Daniel

Hi Daniel, and welcome to the forum.

The MM pickup I would set it 4mm from the poles, not cleser than 3,3.5 if you play light. Then set the neck pickup to match the volume of the MM pickup, and that's it!
The trimpot should be the preamp gain, set it so you match the passive volume with the volume with the preamp engaged.

Please let me know if you need more help.

Hi Florin, thank you.

4 mm allright. I´ll give it a try. Better to turn the volume up than to play out of tune i guess =)

Regarding the trimpots I´m not quite sure that my bass (from 2001) is the same as the newer ones. Tried one out in a local shop the other day and it had a passive/active switch. Mine however does not. But it does have a "slap countor" switch. By pulling the volume knob i cut the mid and boost the highs and lows. And there are two trimpots, not one. Could it still be gain settings?

Unless Im getting forgetful, the push pull knob should be a preamp bypass, not a contour switch. If it is a contour switch maybe you have a different preamp installed. Is there any writing on the preamp?

I have never installed anything in the bass. Bought it new.

I guess I should have done my homework a little better. :)
I guess I have the Seymour Duncan preamp and the pots control the eq contour.

Is there any difference between my preamp and the one made by MEC?
Apart from the eq switch vs active/passive switch?

Thanks!

I agree with Flo on the pup height for the Jazzman, I have a 5 string and i think my back pup is at around 5mm. I play pretty hard and anything less gave me too much wierdness from the magnets. And set your MM first, then sort out the J. I Also found that by dropping the pups and upping the gain i use i got not only better sustain out of it but a bit of a cleaner sound.

Ah, sorry for that, you are right, it is the preamp with the slap contour then...
I cannot answer to your question, since it is highly subjective, and I havn't tried them both A/ B...
They are different, they probably will sound the same in flat position, but they will boost different frequencies, and it is up to you which one you like better.
