Got this gem used a year ago, and there’s 2 blemishes that bother me. One is like a dent, but deeper. And the other a discoloration. Is there a tried and true stain that would blend in here? Or is this repair not quite a DIY job? I’m quite handy with other things......boat, house, cars, etc.
this is an oil finished bass, so you can make it as new if you have patience.
step 1- remove al hardware and electronics (trust me, it is the easiest and safest way)
step 2- try to use moisture and heat, the dent may not disapear, but it will get better.
step 3- use fine sand paper, or #0000 steelwool on the entire bass. Easy, with the grain. You should be able to remove the dents entirely.
step 4- apply a thin coat of melted warwick wax, do not let it build up, make sure it just penetrates the wood. Let it cure overnight, then wax it as you usually do, and put the hardware back
Thanks for the replies. I’ll mull over what to do. For now though, more wax I guess. I’m in FL.....maybe it’s a harsh environment here being in the AC all the time, and then in the heat for transport and practice and gigs.
