Guys, the bottom line is to carry spare tuners.
Almost every pro player playing a Warwick uses the factory tuners. Just do a Google Images search for your favorite player, and note the factory tuners. Some use Hipshots or others, and that's cool. The factory tuners are good tuners, but they, like all mechanical devices, are prone to failure for any number of reasons.
Carry your backup bass and your spare tuners/tools as well. That's just how it is..with any instrument. You purchase/carry spare parts and move on.
Warwick tuners take about two minutes to swap out, TOPS, including loosening/tightening the string, and that's if you're hungover. 14mm wrench, small Phillips head screwdriver, and you're done.
I do not agree at all. Imo the reason why pro players are using these is that they are installed by default. If you start telling Stu Zender to carry replacement tuners because ... you know the tuners we install by default suck ... What would be the reaction?
Btw this never happend to Stu - wanna know why? because he never really used a bass with these tuners. (And he does put B-Strings everywhere)
For me the point is: why put medium quality tuners on a high+ quality instrument? I think potential buyers of a 3-10k German wick would not mind spending extra 40 Eur and have tuners of a quality that EVERY other brand in this range and most brands that not even think about reaching this price range have installed as standard.
Why I am so adamant about it? (dunno - never had a problem with the cheapos 8: )
I like to put the tuners up inside my ass before bed and see if they're still there when I rise in the morning.
