Ovangkol vs. Shedua

What is the deal with the names Ovangkol vs. Shedua? Why are there two names? What is the original/first name?:?:

 

The scientific name is Guibourtia ehie, ovangkol and shedua are common names in different languages of this same tree. Think of acer: you can call it maple, I call it acero, but it's the same plant.

 

Only fairly recently did I learn that
Yams and Sweet Potato plants are
not just kissin cuzzins, but are the
exact same plant.

Harvest early, it's a yam [sweeter]
but harvest later and it's a sweet
potato [accumulates more starch].

Now you know.

Now I'm left wondering if the choice of name,
or maybe the spelling, brings out the mids ...
