So there is a new (old) Stage II inbound. It should arrive tomorrow.

It looks a bit different. Someone took a brush and painted it a dark brown. So there will be a lot of sanding involved.

It is supposed to be a `92 Streamer Stage II, but without inlays and three (?) holes for the strap.
I will post some pictures during the refinish.

Wow, really cool project.
Although, it's a weird SS2 with Bartolini Soapbars and not MEC Jazz. You should ask Warwick about it, it may have a little story.

It was fair priced afair, and now it's clear that the pus and the electronics were installed by Warwick. Means this is a CS in some way. Yes, the bass deserves to be brought back into full glory!

What I don't understand are the holes for the strap. Why three of those?

and Hardy, Warwick quoted the electronics as "not original" and the finish as "nature" so both were done by the first owner.

Awesome! That should be a fun project

Are you planning on doing a natural finish or paint it?

Why not? I've had two on some of my basses (three does seem excessive).
Maybe they just like switching strap position when it gets uncomfortable, and this is an easy way to do so.

Its odd with recessed strap locks, I know some guys who use two standard strap button so the can stand their basses up against an amp. Me I just bring a stand with me.

No paint - definitively a natural finish. But lets wait and see whats underneath the brown paint.

Yeah. That's like removing the tires from a car so you can leave it parked on jackstands. WHY? Instrument stands exist.

depends on who's asking

I would expect they are for balancing. I have theorized that moving the strap location from the center of the bass upwards (toward the upper horn) would move the balance point toward the bridge and away from the neck, thus easing or eliminating neck dive (like in the Thumb). There are some who disagree with my theory. You have the opportunity, nay.....privilege, to test said theory. Please do and fill us all in on the results! I am pretty cautious about drilling new holes in my basses, and now I don't have to.

You could use physics to prove that without drilling a single hole.

The strap tests have to wait, because I couldn't stop myself and have already started to sand the bass down.
But will do.

This is realy interesting.
- The Neck is very different to my other Streamers (chunkier) but nice to play
- The Bass was very nicely set up - nice low action (how I like it)
- The "color" is realy soft and sticky - lots of sandpaper needed
- The Bartolinis are not original - you can still see the holes for the J-PUs.

- I found some wood 'inlays' in the body underneath the brown. These are thick and you can see them in the electronics cavity.
Inlay_2.jpg What_is_that.JPG

I never had an Afzelia body, but sanded it almost looks like Bubinga

More pictures to follow after the weekend - it's coming along nicely.

Ah, one of those myth-enshrouded boob-inga Streamers! Yes, they exist, believe me!

The "inlays" show that the previous owner moved the position of the knobs me thinkz.

Hi Hardy, but when you move the knobs (I also think, thats what happened), wouldn't you just drill a round hole instead of two and large chunks?

I don't realy think it's Bubinga - its not heavy enough.
