    Anyone done this?

3D bridge saddle inserts come in "narrow" and "wide" slot versions...

To me the tapered portion of the B string looks awfully close to the width of the D, which uses a "narrow" insert. All that extra space in the B slot just triggers my OCD

....I might just order one and post the results but thought I'd ask anyway.

Don't use tapered strings. There I solved it!

You can do it but it's easier to just not care about it. A fat string can sit only in a wide saddle piece, a thin string can sit in either wide or narrow. Besides, next string set you use might have a non tapered B.
