... at the shop, but I can't collect it until next weekend :x

I know I could get it delivered, but I want to try it out in the shop through some different amps and stuff. It's killing me not being able to see it!

It could appear on the website any time (hopefully AFTER I've seen it myself). Look out for it - it's a 5 string FNA Jazzman with spalted maple top.

I'll post some pics here of course once I get it. Just thought I'd tease you for now, in view of my own torment!

Spalted maple can be such a beautiful wood, the patterns in the wood are a fungus that is arrested during the drying process, pretty good lookin fungus if ya ask me.

Well, I finally picked up my bass on saturday.

I was actually quite nervous about it. I knew I'd set high expectations and didn't want to be disappointed. But I needn't have worried.

My bit of spalted maple is just right - not too plain, and not too busy. There are nice subtle variances in colour, with some interesting lines. A real piece of art.

But it was the sound that blew me away. I ordered MEC active twinjazz and jazz pickups for it instead of the passive Jazzman configuration, and boy does it pack a punch! It sounds a lot better than my Fortress! I really rate Swamp Ash as a tone wood, and the ebony fretboard (fretted) gives it an amazing attack. Each note leaps off the wood with incredible punch and clarity.

Not only does the low B sounds really fat, but even the E string sounds much bigger and beefed up than on my others. The 3 way electronics give me even more control over the sound, but to be honest, I've mostly played it with flat EQ because there's just no need to change it!

I thought it the amp I played it through in the shop might have enhanced it, but it sounded just as good through my Trace Elliot combo.

    I'm really, really pleased.

I've taken some pics, but I can't get them onto a computer just yet. Hopefully, it will be in the gallery soon so you will all see it soon, I promise.

PS Has anyone ever seen spalted maple on a Warwick before? I'm interested in finding out if any others exist. I've not been able to track one down so far.

I would love to. But I don't have internet access at home, and I don't have a CD ROM drive on my PC at work! I'll try and use a friend's computer this weekend.
