Speaking of System of a Down, I heard this song for the first time in my life last night, and I'm pretty sure SOAD based their entire career on it.

Not very familiar with SOAD's work but perhaps their nationality played a big part determining their sound. They went after their ethnic roots I guess.

"Jazz" is a most unexpected title for a rock album by the way.

Played bass for these guys at a local Oslo gig yesterday - good fun! The band is a project of a guitarist friend of mine, and they have long been seeking a bass player, so I agreed to help them out a bit a while back.

Not much bass in the mix on the recording, so I'll have to try to rectify that if I end up playing on the next one (this recording is not me).

The other day I was reminded by a friend of this funny project that I ended up participating with bass on a few song of (their bass player was drunk in the studio while recording the original tracks - long story :D):

It is kind of a semi-joke/humor band, but most of the jokes really only work well in Norwegian.

Awesome original artwork by Kent Mathieu too!

I'm currently checking out Iron Maiden's Y2K return-to-form album Brave New World. Worthy of a spin if you've never heard it before. I stopped listening to them after Fear Of The Dark, to be honest. But this is good stuff.

Lots of "The" in the song titles. :) Favorite tunes out of this for me: The Fallen Angel (Smith), The Mercenary (Gers), and to a lesser extent The Wicker Man (Smith), Brave New World (Murray). It's a very good album, and their first with a guitar trio. I love Maiden.

@Bassist4Eris, something like a bait to have you check out The Final Frontier of 2010. A Smith tune, he wrote most of the album actually.

Nice! I heard this whole album was pretty good. I'll probably check out the whole thing soon. I'm also intrigued by The Book Of Souls.

OK, I'm streaming Final Frontier right now. Currently on "The Alchemist". My reaction to the record so far is perhaps summarized best by these two well-known music critics:

I shall further disclose that this was told to me once by a Moroccan girl over the internet. Their usual second language is French. I found it pretty hilarious sounding so it stuck with me. I think I'll start using it around here when someone gets a new bass. :)

While we're on the subject of Iron Maiden, am I the only one here who loves Seventh Son of a Seventh Son? That might actually be my all-time favorite.

I love it too for its artistic level. It's surreal. Like its cover art. Despite possible flaws, the album transcends.

I do think it’s a very good album. My favorites are probably Number of the Beast, and Somewhere in Time. Of course, the eponymous debut still holds a dear place in my heart.
Honestly the run from Number to Seventh Son, I could listen to them every day.
