I just discovered this on Spotify, and I really like it. Melodic prog rock switching on a dime into brutal death metal. Not only that, you also get song titles like "Azagthoth" and "Rise of the Cephalopods", LOL.

They're kind of a supergroup. Check out their bio: Band - Alkaloid

That whetted my appetite for some prog metal. Now spinning this:

I think modern prog metal busts my balls even more than old prog metal. :)

Crossposting. Only traces of "prog metal". Interesting rhythm guitar parts and interesting interplay with the voice. Voice, a bit tired. Production, leaves a lot to be desired.

So I just got sucked into this imbecilic quiz to find out which heavy metal legend I am. It turns out I am Gene Simmons. I'm not terribly thrilled about that.

Which Heavy Metal Legend Are You?

Still, it does not represent me much so I'm guessing the quiz engine needs some work. :)

P.S. Who would you say would be a representative metal icon for you? For me, Chuck Schuldiner spontaneously comes to mind.

I love the Colored Sands album by Gorguts, and my love only increased when I realized how much of the sound on that album is actually bass! Check out this beyond awesome playthrough by Colin:

Last night I went to a charity event where a bunch of bands from So Cal get together and play tributes to DimeBag and now Vinnie

It was a mix and match of guys, and this little 4 1/2 ft girl they called Roach (that just shredded) on stage that got up there and ripped old Pantera and Damage Plan songs.....I got to say it was one of the best shows I've been to all year......fun, fun :)
