Funny, my wife said the same thing. I’ll have to think about that.

I would try this. You find gold hw on the second hand market because everybody replaces it. But for some basses it fits nonetheless. In the end you have to see it in real to judge about it. I keep the chrome hw on my black Katana, all black does not meat my taste while my all black Infy looks much better with black hw. My Stryker looks better with black hw while my Reverso looks better with chrome hw. It´s not only about the look but also it gives some direction of the character of the bass, if you know what I mean.

Well, it's not on his bass now, is it? :)

That’s a good looking Katana. I’m actually really liking the chrome hardware offsetting the dark stain.

I finally got to play my Katana for the first time live last night. She sounds awesome!!! The upper registers really do belt out some really nice clear tones while the low end is thick and solid Warwick goodness.

She is strung up with a set of Warwick yellow labels strings. I can’t help to think these strings may be holding the Katana back a little. Any string suggestions? I was thinking of going with DR pure Blues.

    Thanks

    Shaun

I use Dean Markley Blue Steels, but don't play 5 string so can't vouch for how the B sounds. That's what was on my Katana on those songs I sent you.

Following Pauls recommendations I equipped the Dean Markley Blue Steel too and I am happy with the decision.

Hey, so I knew before hand that the pickups were a little more spaced apart on the Katana. Does that make a big difference in tone?

On a side note it looks like the Robert Trujillo Warwick has the same spacing.

I don’t know since I never owned a Vette. Seems I have to change this.

Ok about the spacing, but can you tell if one of the pickups is very close to Corvette position? If you can take two measurements, from 24th fret to the front of each pickup, it would be very interesting. I already have the measurements for a few Corvettes (there are slight differences in models over time).

    I’ll get a measurement tonight.

How high should the pickups be to the strings? I believe Warwick suggests 2mm from strings.

That number is roughly ok I think (about 2.5mm or the thickness of the bridge adjustment allen wrench). It's a good starting point but in the end it depends on what you want to achieve. I always try to make the neck pickup as balanced in output as possible, then shape my tone a bit using the bridge pickup's angle while maintaining overall balance. So the bridge pickup is on average as loud as the neck one, at center detent. I also prefer having my pickups as high as possible, for more output. Without having them in the way of my fingers or so high that strings damage them.

Okay, just an update. I have played my baby live twice now and all I can say is.... I’m in Love.

She is absolutely gorgeous and she brings that beautiful Warwick growl. I have played so many different basses throughout the years but Warwick’s always feel like home. Not to mention they are just amazing instruments. A work of art. Okay, I’ll stop now. But seriously they are amazing.

I took my bass in yesterday to have it professionally setup and get the action lowered a bit more. I am also replacing the strings as well. It’s currently wearing a set of Warwick’s yellow pack of strings. I’m going to throw a set of DR Pure Blues on it. Will I have any issues with the tail piece and the non tapered .130 B?

Nope, no issues. All went great. The DR’s sound fantastic on the bass.
