Aussie band Karnivool put out their new album Sound Awake on June 5. But they've kindly put the whole thing up on their myspace a week early.

Jon Stockman the bassist has a killer album, his Thumb NT6 sounds amazing. Check out the tones on Simple Boy and Goliath...

Change, the albums closer is quite simply one of the most stunning tracks I've heard.

    Any other Vool fans here??

Definitely album of the year in my book, even if unreleased yet :)
Thanks for getting me hooked on vool Jono
The album is very inspirational, hats off to the dudes. Havien't heard stuff like this for a long long time.

Regarding the bass sound, indeed, there are some sweeeet thumb tones on the album, love the delay on the bass :D

It was well worth the wait, I knew the guys would come up with some great material, but I had no idea it would be this amazing. Epic.

lol, I'm listening to them already, infact I've been listening to their new stuff almost nonstop for the last few days. I was a HUGE fan of their last record and with this one I think i'm becoming fanatic about the band.
Cant wait til they play some shows in the US. I'm P.O at myself that I missed the last tour.

ATM I'm trying to get that overdrive tone out of my BOSS gt6b that Jon has on a few of the songs. I think he uses an ODB-3 but I can't get any of the overdrive's on it to sound as snarly w/ out the fuzzyness.

*I'm horrible when it comes to setting up effects, if anyone has had any luck getting that sound as well as his delay sound I'd love to hear how you tweaked it to give me a rough starting point. :) )

Going a bit against the grain here.

All i know is a great song, as is new day, but as a whole this album is lacking the energy of Themata, and leaves them more like an experimental version of Ians other band Birds of Tokyo.

Im still going to see them, and ill still buy the album, but am a little dissapointed its not as heavy as the last.

Karnivool, wow. They escaped my radar for a while. Some of it remind me of Tool, but at the same time different.

They popped up in a "pebal board of the stars" thread on another forum and I looked them up on myspace and found myself downloading (legally) their record after hearing Cote. Themata is a great record. Listening to the new one now...I like it.

Here is a screencap of his pedalboard.

Looks like a Tech 21 XXL (purple pedal) as well as an ODB-3 (yellow pedal). I think the BOSS twin pedal is the DD-20. It's hard to make the other pedals out...possibly two TU-2's (one of them might be a LS-2,...or an NS-2) Digitech chorus (blue pedal) and a Mutron III...the others I'm not sure.

Oh...kewl...The GEB-7 must be what one of those White(ish) pedals are.

The Mutron III as well as the other stuff that's unplugged probably belongs to the studio,...or the guitard :d.

I don't hear a whole lot of envelope filtering going on in either one of their records.

He's using an OC3 too.. I think that white pedal is a tuner, not the GEB7...his board has probably changed since that pic...
