If about 100 seems too remarkable, think of
it as "about 50" done twice. In switching over
almost toadally to FL, I'd prolly gone thru 50
fretted basses [kept just a few] and then went
and did pretty much that same extravagance
in the FL realm. So picture me as 2 different
players, fretted Golem and FL Golem, each of
of whom went thru the ridiculousness of 50
basses, but just don't picture either of those 2
Golems as being so insane as to go thru 100
    basses per Golem :)

That sounds about what I did when I went from 4 to 5 strings. I took me a while to find the 4 strings I liked, and then I switched to 5, sold most of the 4's and went through a few until I've settled on the 5's I have now

I've never owned a FL though.....that rabbit hole will have to wait for a little while :)

Honestly I've only played a fretless a few times. But I'm seriously thinking about buying a fretless neck from Warmoth and put it on my Alvarez just to see if I like it or not......I figure I'd start small and go from there

I think that if I could get my hands on a Dolphin Broadneck Fretless, I would be feeling whole, tho. I know where it leaves. :)
Corrlary question, of all the basses you've gone through, what is the maximum number you had at the same time ?
    For me it's 13.

What I see is that there is no El Cheapo, or Polished Turd bass in Jordan's list. It make me jealous.

    I'd put the number at 50, + or - a few. Currently at 11 I believe.

No exact answer since the amount would truly be
"Several Dozen". When there's that many on hand
the exact count is just not on the radar.

I went thru various binges, such as at least a dozen
headless basses, maybe 1/2 dozen 30" scale basses,
etc etc, plus I'm on my 4th or 5th EUB [2 on hand].

My highest number was 18 or so. But that was the end of the line. Basses all around, on the floor, behind doors... where do you store 50 basses at once?

Since this actually came up last night (My 4 year old was asking about my avatar)....
It all started with a Fender Jazz bass 27 years ago....since then:
4 String Lotus P bass Copy
    5 String Alvarez EB 5
    4 String Guild Pilot (American)
Streamette (current but up for sale)
    Takamine EAB 4 string
    3 Fortress One 5er's (German)
    3 Streamer STD 4's (German)
    Fortress Masterman
    Washburn AEB 4 string
Fortress One 4 String /Germany (current)
    Streamer STD 5 /Germany (current)
    Upton UB Jazz/Bluegrass Hybrid upright
    Stagg electric upright (current)
60's Starbass (I don't remember offhand what year, but I didn't have it long)
Squier 5 string Jazz bass ( I think I kept this for a week and sent it back)
    Carvin LB75
Carvin kit bass (built this one for my son)
    Carvin AC40

It took me a while after selling one of the Streamer STD's to recover and find one that had had both the sound and feel of that one and I regretted selling it immediately. The 5'er that I have now is pretty damned close and it makes up for a lot in the warmth that it projects so I think this will be my main bass for the future....

    Zombie thread alert!
    Cool thread!

For me I currently have 9. I have bought and sold only 3 basses: a BC Rich bass, no idea of the model, standard shape, late 80s, a fender special Precision (hadP-bass and Jazz pickup and was teal green) and. 5 string Stuart Spector which I sold after a few years since I can barely play 4, and because I quit the band I was in with a capo mad fool.
Every other bass I have bought I still have.
