    Hey there, how's it going?

I tried E-bay and also Google. I guess these are no longer available.

I am trying to reduce the weight on the headstock to help reduce the neck dive.

Honestly, If I can't get this bass to hang to my liking I'm thinking about selling, or trading.

Get a wide suede leather strap. It seriously helps, and it's very comfortable ;)

Am using a wide strap now, still looking for more options.

I found the Gotoh GB350 machine heads at Allparts.com.

Had to call, not on their on-line catalog. $36.00 US each !!! ouch---

These weigh 35grams. Stock tuners weigh in at 58grams (can Florin confirm this please)

    58 minus 35 = 23 grams saved for each x 5 = 115 grams saved

    115grams = 4.056oz - same as 1/4 lb !

This could make a substantial difference at the head of the bass.

I am looking for opinions before I tackle this project.

    Thanks!

Okay, here we go... I ordered these super-lite tuners and I will post results when I get them installed and tested.

    Update:

I installed the new ultralight Gotoh Res-O-Lite GB350 tuners last night just before band rehearsal. Here are my comments:

The new tuners fit perfectly, no need to redrill or modify holes in any way.
One thing that is different on the new tuners is that the post has a larger diameter ( the part the string gets wound on). So, it takes more string to wind up onto the tuner than previously, luckily I had enough string there for it to work. I'll be changing strings soon, so at that time I will cut them a little longer.

The weight reduction has made a marked improvement on the balance of the instrument. I am pleased.

The new tuners are very smooth and tuning the bass is very easy without any binding at all when turning the pegs.

To summarize my modifications to this bass since I have owned it (6 months) :

    1) Extended the upper horn pin 1"
    2) added 1/4lb of weight to the electronics cavity
    3) added a strap pin 2" above the stock pin on the bridge side of bass
    4) replaced stock tuners with Gotoh GB350 ultralights.

The bass now hangs the way I want it to and has good balance. Now I have a bass with awesome tone and is comfortable to wear.

I installed a set of the GB350s on an Fbass and it turned out beautiful. They are definitely worth the money.
