    I’m on chapter 46-

All kidding aside it’s sad to see but I don’t believe it’s the same company that was when, at the age 15, of I lusted for a brand new 1976 gold hardware Les Paul Custom black beauty at the music store ten miles from our farm. But I did get to play it, (and with a talk box no less!) because one of the women working there liked me. Price? 675.00 USD in the spring of 1978.

I'm optimistic about the company. Someone will probably buy it and restore it to its former glory doing sensible things. There's lots of potential on that brand still, it's just a matter of being well utilized.

Probably so, Fender was sold in the early-80’s and is doing well after changing hands once or twice over the years-

Isn't this how America works though? The country is bankrupt, Gibson is bankrupt. Guitar centre is in major debt and should close but the local industry props it up.

Just print more cash, it will be fine ha ha

All kidding a side. They should just close the door. In bass world Gibson don't do anything that appeals to me in the slightest.

Ya know if Guitar Center goes under I will be sad. They (and Sam Ash) basically put most of the small local shops out of business. If they go, there is nowhere to go for gear. The smaller shops that do exist won't have the range of products to test. When I went looking for new monitors, I was able to switch between 10 different sets at my local GC. I know they aren't the greatest in some ways (why the fuck do they play background music when you are there to test gear) but they will leave a void if they go. Sam Ash does have a few stores in my state, but nowhere near me anymore.

My very first 'real' guitar was a '79 LP Deluxe...cherryburst, P-90's. It played like a dream. Gibson needs to take a chapter from the Apple playbook of the Steve Jobs era and chop the models/brands down to a core product line. Players will always buy LP's and SG's because their heroes played them. Gibson could sustain very well into the future without hardly any product innovation whatsoever. They've been rolling on brand name alone for the last few decades.

Personally, I hope they don't as it would be a great loss. Now that Juszkiewicz is out, maybe someone will be able to turn it around into the company that makes great guitars that it could be, rather than the Brand that makes hit or miss instruments.

Adding insult to injury, there is now only 1 Gibson USA guitar under the magic $1000 price : a Les Paul Junior Tribute double cut with 1 P90 pickup for $799: Les Paul Junior Tribute DC 2019

And if you want an SG, get ready to empty your bank account, this is the lowest priced one at $1099 : SG Standard Tribute 2019

Gibson got close to break-even in September | Nashville Post

But then, a couple of hours ago I read this on law360... "(December 14, 2018, 10:54 PM EST) -- The U.S. Trustee's Office has asked the Delaware bankruptcy court to hold off on Gibson Brands Inc.’s bid to close its Chapter 11, saying "a number of critical tasks" remains undone".

Gibson are not out of the danger zone just yet...

Well, considering the price increases on their 2019 models, I'm not surprised. Maybe their sales are not yet up to par.
