I used to have an Orange AD200B with such a cab. Great sounding amp! Sold it cos it broke down a lot of times. Have a Hiwatt now. Similar sounding, but better built.

Am I right in thinking this is the first time Geddy has used an amp for a while? Last interview I read he was talking about just going direct into the PA. Any Rush fans out there with more info?

Yep, you're both right. The last couple of years he was DI-ing only, but he missed the stacks of amps behind him, so he used all kinds of strange things like washing machines to have a wall behind him:)

Miele makes one with a DI-out, so you can get your washing machine sounds right into the sound board. The drum's 15" so you can wash all your stageclothes and it has a beer holder.

This is the first I have heard of him going with Orange and there is no mention of it on rush.com But, the announcement is also on Orange's website and I can't believe for a second they would announce that if it wasn't true. Will be intresting to hear from Geddy whats up with this change, since he recently changed his SansAmps from the RBIs to RPMs and have been saying how happy he was with it. Geddy has not used a typical Amp & Cabinet setup on stage for years.

Basically he splits his sound into bottom end and top end so that he can eq and effect them differently to achieve his overall sound. For example he runs his bottom end clean, but adds a little distortion to the top end. He uses SansAmp preamps, Trace Elliot Power Amps with Palmer speaker simulators and Avalon DIs out to the main PA and relys on in-ear monitors on stage. Ive seen a video of his tech going through and explaining his rack, but I haven't been able to locate it too add to this post.

And yes, in place of the abscent speaker cabs he has had electric dryers, rotiserire chicken ovens and even a malt shop type counter setup. If you notice in the pictures throwofftom posted, these props are actually mic'd, but I would have to guess that is just a part of the humor of it.

    Sh!t, I don't know.
Maybe he was bored with his tone... or He missed using Amps again.

Or better yet, he couldn't come up with another gag to use after the Dryers and Ovens.

I just want to here his new tone with them and if he is still using his Sansamp with the Orange Cabs and Heads.

I would imagine it is going to sound pretty much as he always does. His bass tech, or former tech I should say, once said that it doesn't matter what bass he plays or what he plays through, Ged always sounds like Ged and that is because the majority of his sound comes from his technique. And Geddy is very aggressive with his right hand and really digs in.

But I agree, I look forward to hearing it myself.
