T6 did indeed (and still does) amazing stuff, in many aspects way better than any of my mockups...

I fell guilty for having said many times that I would get back to the mockuping business and not having done a single mockup since... :(

    I thought about it, but,

I didn't want to step on any toes. It was very clearly stated that this was Jan's thread now (after T6 took his toys and went home) and I didn't want to impose.

I'm no where near as good as Jan or T6. I always seem to get the little details wrong (like the way the body joins the neck and such). And some of the requests, I would have no idea how to make them look right. (I want maple body with Swirly Bubinga top and purple heart filler... etc)

They really are alot of work and I personally don't think T6 or Jan really got credit for the time and effort they put into them. Yeah, people said they looked good but all the change this change that... do this do that, it really seemed to me that people took them for granted. Especially when its a bass the person had no intention on actually ordering. I could see all the changes and spending the extra time for someone whos really about to order this bass and whats to get a good idea what it would look like. I forgot who it was, but someone posted a pic of the mockup T6 did and the CS bass he bought when it arrives, and I swear, it looked like T6 had that bass infront of him when he did the mockup. I could never dream of nailing that kind of accuracy.

And frankly, I would hate to disappoint people. Either by not being able to give them the quality of mockup, or by saying I would do it and then not doing it or not being able to do it.

So bottom line .... I'll think about it, because I really enjoyed doing them or trying to do them, but other than that ... I have no idea.

Randy, this is no one's thread in particular, and you mockups are more than good enough! And only by doing more of them will you manage to get the things that you're not happy about...

My mockups have improved over time, so have T6's, you just have to jump in to get it right! :)

As for it being a thankless job, I wouldn't say that. It allowed me to develop my designer eye and my photoshop chops, and these are very valuable...

randy if you enjoy it then do it! As for learning there are a load of tutorials on the net and i'm sure even if there are not specific to basses they'll give you some inspiration, from your previous work though you have talent for it man just need to polish your skills! if no-one has ideas i'm sure no one will have beef with you re-doing requests for practice.

    Lol HD :))
Randy, I really liked your designs buddy! And the submissions for the SC contest were great too. If I remember correctly, (insider info) Jonas Hellborg voted your design as being his fav.
So if you have time, and like doing this, we would really apreciate your help. Pat and T6 helped our forum a lot with their work...

IIRC, CS does still build discontinued models.

    Indeed they do, Golem!

It's not exactly cheap, but it's entirely possible!

I might be misinformed, but as far as I know (my dealer told me so), the discontinued models can't be ordered with CS options.. am I wrong?

Hmmm, this bass cries for 4 in-line knob placement. It will give you more space for the switches, and look prettier. I think the empty space between pickups looks kind of disharmonic. Perhaps if the J was a little closer to the bridge as well, or the hambaker not so close to the bridge...

That's the best I could do. I'm starting to use Aperture and man, that sucks. I've been able to do this, but then I couldn't manage to do anything else... I was copying an element (a knob), and I couldn't "paste" it where I wanted on the pic ! I've managed to do it for this pic, but I couldn't do it again... Even with the same steps.

Yann, apperture is not a photoediting software... Either get your hands on photoshop, or, if your want something free, the Gimp... the interface needs a bit of getting used to, but it gives you much more creatve space than apperture for modifying photos...
