I asked about this in a dead thread so I figure I will try as an actual post.
I just bought a FNA JM (2002) and am having some ssues with an almost overdriven preamp sound when I am slapping and popping. The MM pickup wasn't working at first. The mini switch is broken off so I had to go into the broken mini switch with a small screw driver to switch it. Then the mm pickup worked. I'm wondering if there is a correlation or its just the nature of this pickup to overdrive the pre?
Do other FNA owners experience this? I think the overdriven buzz happens mostly with the MM pickup and I don't notice it in passive mode.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Also does anyone have any pickup replacement suggestions if it's the pickups nature? Waiting on the new switch before I go crazy though.
Thanks

Open up the control cavity and see if there is a trim pot on the preamp.
If it is there, it controls the gain going into the preamp from the pickups.
99% chance turning that down somewhat will fix your problem.
