After many years finally acquired these 2, 1989 Limited Edition Streamer #68 and JD Thumb 5 string #51. Ive owned at least 6 other Thumb 5er’s from different years and this by far is the best, the body is very thin, and made of Afzelia, the neck profile much more flat and thin, the pickup angle provides a more focused and articulate sound without sacrificing any low end. Only 9 lbs, Pure magic!

The lock of the thumb sits also unusual position at the horn - does it give an improved balance ?
Also nice the Afzelia on a thumb !

A prior owner moved the top strap lock from its original position. It does help alleviate some neck dive as the more inward position forces the the body and neck up a little. I’ve always noticed on my Warwicks that the more outward the top strap button is located the more tendency toward neck dive. Afzelia definitely opens up the tone compared to the more compressed sound of Bubinga, Ive never owned a Thumb that sounds as good as this one does. It’s also very loud!

Congratulations!
That JD Thumb will be a forever bass - trust me! Just do yourself a favour and try Bartolini pickups in it. Also, check to see if the pre amp has the trim pot on it to adjust the preset midrange- it makes a World of difference and really defines the Thumb Sound!
