Hi All,

I have a 2004 Corvette standard, natural oil finish with a 3 piece body. Over the years the body has darkened unevenly with the top piece darker than the middle or bottom, the back of the body is not so bad so I think it's due to sunlight. Can anyone suggest how to return the body to it's original colour.

Many thanks

HI Reso, and welcome to the forum!
Ah, this doesn't looks so good... Sometimes it happens, it is hard to predict how the wood will react in time...
I don't think you can make it back, but you can make it better with a solid color finish.

Hi Florin.
Would a coloured stain be ok (burgundy ) or do you suggest paint?
Also how do I best remove the natural oil finish before I refinish?

Many thanks.

in any case remove old finish and and sand.

wherher transparent finish ias an option you will see when the bass has been sanded.
if the discoloring goes too deep you need a solid finish or you will see rhe same as now with a different color.

Thanks for the replies.

So I will remove the old wax and then sand.
It's going to be a long weekend!

I think when you will finish again the difference will still be there no matter how much you sand... I guess only solid color not stained will do the trick here...

agreed, even a dark stain will show this through, i guess that wood just reacts different to the other pieces, and if you sanded it out and stained it, it would age the same again, seems a shame to laquer it though, as it makes it unique, but i think it'd also frustrate me.
