I like to watch horror movies as part of my Halloween season. This year I finally got around to watching "A Dark Song", which I've wanted to see for years, because it is based (very loosely) on a real occult ritual known as the Abramelin Rite. I say "very loosely" because the actual Abramelin Rite would make for a pretty boring movie. The ritual itself goes back to the Middle Ages, and consists of an 18-month program of increasingly intense prayer, meditation, invocation, and ritual, leading to what is known in the occult as the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel.

In pop culture, you may be aware that Jimmy Page once bought a house that used to belong to the famous occultist Aleister Crowley. The house, known as Boleskine, later burned down, allegedly due to a curse caused by Crowley starting, but not finishing, the Abramelin Rite in this house. The ritual work outlined in the movie has very little to do with the actual rite, but it was a pretty good flick nevertheless.

Not a film but a cool Twilight Zone episode Perchance to Dream from 1959 which explores the blurring of the line between imagination and reality-

Here's a captivating clip from the 25 minute episode-
