How does it rate compared to alder? I never heard of this wood...

That's gonna be hard to compare apples to apples there mate. The only carolena basses I know of are the Streamer STD's, both the wicks and the RB's. These have passive soapbars. The only alder I know is a couple of RB's, the Corvette, and possibly the Vampyre. Both of these have very different pickup configurations to the STD.

yeah it's tough, I'm trying to decide which cheap backup bass to buy and in the Rockbass range I'd be between the Streamers and the Corvettes, meaning carolena or alder. I'll have to give them a try somewhere...

Alder is widely used, carolena I had never heard of being used in instruments, so probably not a great option (I'd think other makers would use it more if it was good)?

You get alder in high-end basses. Why not carolena then?

Carolenea sounds great. The Rockbass Streamers and Rockbass Corvettes are both very nice, but as metioned - they have more differences than just the timber.

The Streamer's pickups are very warm sounding humbuckers....not what I'd call hi-fi, and their passive electronics are a simple pickup blend and passive tone control. The Corvette's J pups are what I'd call cleaner and brighter...along with the onboard pre amp and EQ they present more versatility.

I really like both actually...they're just different.

    ;)

Thanks, at the moment I'm inclined towards a cheap Precision bass kind of thing, sounds like the Streamer would be more along those lines tonewise...
