Now that this is solved, another question.
I'll mod the electronics to get a "Masterman" type of controls.
Stacked Vol/Bal with PP, Stacked Treble/Bass for bridge and Stacked treble bass for Neck.
The 60006 diagram shows a Mec M62110 stacked pot for the T/B controls (that are apparently obsolete...). I have a MEC M85110, equipped with a "platine" that I can't find on the Website. (i found the bare pot).
I tried to get in touch with the Warwick team, but got no answer after the second exchange.

Anyone has an idea to get this platine ?

Thanks,

H

So, i found this :
View attachment 22920
And tried it on an old Ikea board.

Worked fast, fairly accurately.
It removed the varnish and "sandblasted" the veneer without removing it.
So, i tried it on the neck pocket of the buzzard :

It's not good enough. It removes the color and oil, but... It turns out that Zebrano is fairly soft, and the steel wheel attcks it way too hard. So i get a really nice, "sandblasted" look, but the Zebrano structure is way too fine and I won't be able to seal it again.
I guess I'll leave it as it is.
I like it that way anyway :)

Sounds like it may be ok to sandblast? Lots of sanding after to get a smooth finish but you can use any clear non colouring oil or wick wax on the smooth sanded zebrano.

Yeah, possible.
The 60006 diagram is fairly "simple", and the stacked tone I have has the same wiring with the platine. I'll do some diggin', I don't really want to invest 300€ in two stacked knobs when I already have one on hand.

Thought about it. Unfortunately, EMG soen't make a stacked Vol/Pan pot. (I asked :) )

My idea is to buy another MEC M85110 with platine, that's the cheapest, easiest way. Apparently, the platine has some components on it, so it's not just for the "neat" aspect.

Maybe I'll hack into the Reverso. And equipe the Reverso with EMG...

I bought a set of MEC $$ with the same treble/bass pot, and same BEC2 platine. I should receive it shortly.
Not sure of what to do with the $$ p'ups, but I'll find a way. Maybe I'll do another TYhomann kit :)
Unless I find a Rockbass for dirt cheap..;

Anyway, Luthier is in vacation (lucky him), I'll have some time to fiddle with the electronics. :)

Yes, but that will mess up the wiring diagram I found :)
And since I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, I'll try to stick with the aforementioned 60006 drawing. And, Also, I have found the good Vol/Blend Push Pull pot from MEC. :)

Woke this morning
(todo dodo doom)
With an idea in my head
(todo dodo doom)
Went to the luthier this morning
(todo dodo doom)
gave'him some cash for he's to make
(todo dodo doom)
A brand new neck fo' ma Buzzard
(todo dodo doom)

We went thru a whole lot of things, and woods.
What I fancied was confirmed when I heard the lumbers resonate.
So, specs are :
3-ply neck Padouk/Maple/Padouk, with ebony stripes. Round C profile.
Macassar Ebony fretboard, 26 frets, Single inlay at the 12th fret.
Reversed, matching (and modified) Buzzard Headstock.
43mm width Brass nut.

Bad news is : I have to wait for 6 months. The guy is over-friggin' booked.

Well, i don't mind being sucked waiting. Sorry :)
Yes the Luthier is good you'll find an outdated website looking under Dussenne luthier on google.
Plus he had to open a new shop as his landlord sold the property he rented earlier this year, that set him back, too.

SO.
After a loooooong wait and lots of changes in the idea, it looks like BuzzBOo is back.
BuzzBOo is now a monstruous War Machine.
It's still a Buzzard Zbrano Body, Burgundy Oiled. She still has her two MEC P P'ups. But :
--> The electronics have changed, i now have Vol/Blend, and Bass/Treble Preamp for EACH pickup.
--> The neck is Maple/Ebony stringer/Padauk/Ebony Stringer/Maple, a veneer of Padauk is under the Ebony Fingerboard, with 26 medium steel frets. There is also a nice Padaux veneer on the headstock that has a reversed beak. No logo.
--> And, of course... It's an 8-strings :), so new bridge from Warwick.
I kept the Gold Hardware because it matches the red better than the black IMO.

Thanks guys.

Yes, despite being quite late, the luthier did a really, REALLY great job. The neck is just chunky enough, the veneer of Padauk under the Ebony fretboard looks wonderful, and it resonnates...
Didn't have the chance to plug it and play it for real yet.
