An italian friend to buy it for you then ship would be the safest bet I think. Mercatino Musicale is for italian market, so requests to ship abroad are unusual. Sometimes it works though :)
    Good luck, mate!

I also bought my red Fortress Flashback from Italy. They speak good english. It is not a problem to communicate with them in english :)

Well shipping around Europe is mostly not a problem for sellers. Sometimes they don't want to.
Therefore a compatriot might be useful.

Another possible candidate! Thanks! I know my dad's preference is for the natural finish, but this is intriguing.

We initially had budgeted $1500 (USD), but it is looking increasingly like $2000 (USD) may be more realistic because of shipping and tax/duty. We may have to have another family chat about extending the budget!

A 6 is the goal, but a 5 would be cool too. I don't think I would want to go with a 4 (maybe for me sometime in the future haha...I am primarily a drummer, but dabble in the low end, and can't wrap my head around more than 4 strings!)

I'm currently trying to figure out how to calculate import duty/tax/VAT.

The black one is a neck through, a more expensive one. A bit different sounding too :)
And also it is a vintage one, honestly, one that should not exist :) By the looks it is probably from 88, and 6 strings in 88 was quite rare. I don't think I've ever seen one that old, it was probably custom made. Consider to be lucky only to see it for sale :)
100% hand made, no CNC machinery involved, there are not two the same, it is probably lighter than the new ones, slicker and slimmer. HP Wilfer probably personally worked on this one (he used to work in production too in the early days. A true gem!

    - I think the finish is "see through" probably even a bit sparkly.
    - Please note the off center bottom strap pin common for that age- less neck dive, looks cooler too.
    - This model has an easy to replace trussrod, if it worns out. a 15 EUR fix. New ones are hard to fix if they have trussrod issues. 1600 EUR for this bass is a steal!

    Just buy it, goddammit!

Sexy innit? I'd buy it myself if I had the means.
By the looks of it some things have got upgraded on this 1990 though, I see three stacked pots and from what I can tell a rather new bridge. The original Thumbs had two band pre-amps, right?
Those pickups might be aftermarket, too.

Still, that is one awesome axe right there!

Haha, believe me, I want to. Unfortunately, it is a fair amount over budget, and my better half would have a thing or two to say about that! Perhaps we can adjust the budget...I am still figuring out how to broach that topic :p

There is a gorgeous neck through thumb 6 available stateside, but it is waaaaaaay over budget at $3500...

Take her to where she keeps all of her shoes and point at them. Then state "I think its okay to buy that bass".

No man, it is you being gratious to us and your father, we are glad to assist.
@DiMarco is it a 1990 one? Still pretty cool. I owned a 92, it was the best Thumb I've ever owned. Still a great deal, if you are after a 6 strings Thumb, I don't think you can get better than this everything considered :)

Thank you! I am also keeping a keen eye on TalkBass. A nice looking Streamer was posted a day or two ago, but alas...

I believe it! I reached out to the seller :).

Unfortunately, it seems like the shipping and duty may take it out of my price range. We shall see...

The bas looks like "deffective for parts only" to me, especially if it is shipped with hardware in a different bag... Also I would gladly contribute for this bday present for such an awesome father, others may too. It is not unusual on this forum to help each other.

Perhaps I missed that point in a translation error (I am using Google translate after all). Maybe you are correct.

That is EXTRAORDINARILY generous, and I thank you so much for the offer, however I couldn't accept any financial contribution. Your willingness to help me locate candidate instruments is more than enough, and I truly appreciate it!

What a great group of people has been assembled here!

But nobody offered financial contribution to you. We already love your father, and it is his Bday :)
