Mec Active J Pickup With Emg J

Need some advice here. I've got an extra active EMG J pickup I was thinking of installing in the bridge or neck of my thumb bass to give it some different tone range. Has anyone tried this before? They are both active PU, so in theory this should work. I have an active 3 band MEC installed-tone...

    Mec Pickup Replacement

Funny thing- I've been tossing the idea around. It would be easier than the JAN was.

    Mec Pickup Replacement

I am interested to hear how much of a difference in tone the brass makes. It's more dense than regular brass. It was definitely a challenging build. Here's the final cut. Thanks for all the feedback, definitely keeping the MEC's.

    Mec Pickup Replacement

After many hours of research, debate, and mulling, I have decided to keep the MEC's rather than perform a tonal heart transplant on the bass They take a lot of flack, but I do think they give the bass a great deal of character. Mec Pickup Replacement

I never thought I'd say this, but after putting a 2 band Glock into this bass, I'm questioning putting a set of Delano JC5 HE/M2's in my Thumb. I've always liked the MEC tone/ punch/ sound profile, but after putting this preamp in the bass I'm starting to debate putting a new set in. From...

    Truss Rod Nightmare

It would be much more fixable on your bass. You could buy a replacement from warmoth or try to straighten it yourself. That's a nice bass to just retire from a warped neck.

    Truss Rod Nightmare

Not at all, I'm surprised to see so many different posts of people saying they can buy a new neck since this was not offered to me whatsoever.

    Truss Rod Nightmare

Thanks for the feedback on the post and I'm glad to hear you were offered another option because in all my correspondence with H. P. Wilfer it was not discussed, mentioned, or given as a variable but I did purchase it used.

    Truss Rod Nightmare

I've seen many different posts about the problems with the truss rod in these basses and want to share another first hand experience that kept me up for several days- I even had dreams about this... I bought this bass used for less than $900 and was ensured by the seller that he had my tech look...
