Ahhh I see, you've got a point there. It'll probably even out to be roughly the same.
I just emailed an Aussie dealer though, and they told me the discount for a CS instrument is only somewhere around 15-20%...
What kind of finish does the first one have? Looks like Natural Oil, but the CS pricelist list says that you cannot have birch with oil finish....so I'm a bit confused :P
I can get a Warwick Corvette 5-String (active/active) with Natural Oil finish for 830 pounds (if I order from a U.K store).
So: 830 + 83 (10% GST) + 120 (shipping charge) + 42 (5% import tax) = 1075 UK pounds
Convert that to Australian dollars and the TOTAL cost of the bass = $1935AU
All...
It's the mother of pearl oval inlays. I like them because they look nice but are still non-pretentious. :P Also, they are some of the cheapest inlays on the CS pricelist. :D
Probably similar to the LTD 2009...I've only ever found 2 photos of a bass with those inlays, and I can't seem to track...
Thanks for the advice Greg! I've actually just sent Bass People an email asking them for a quote on the CS I want. Hopefully it works out well. :)
If anyone wants to know the custom I'm considering it's:
Ash Corvette 5-String (active/active) + flamed blackwood top + oval inlays + matched...
Hi Greg. The reason I was considering overseas dealers is because Warwicks seem to be a major ripoff here. For example, even just a plain Corvette 5-String (active/active) costs about $2,600 here....(if I order from UK, I can get one for < $2,000 including ALL shipping costs and import taxes)...
My bad...I meant "config". So active pickups + active EQ...
Also, can anyone here recommend some US or UK online stores, that have international shipping and will let me order a CS through them?
OK, I emailed a store asking some questions about their Custom Shop process but they told me to give them a call. However, I don't feel like paying for a lengthy international call so I thought I'd post a few questions here! :P
Basically what I want, is a standard swamp ash Corvette 5-string...
Wouldn't it be cheaper to just order a Custom Shop Corvette, and select the "Tasmanian Blackwood Top" option?
Or does the fact that it's a CS make it super pricey automatically?
P.S. I saw one hanging on a shop here in Australia, have to admit that's one nice looking bass!
In some way I agree with you. But with your approach you often have to "settle".
For example, in my city I would have to get "approximately" the instrument I want...(in terms of finish and pickup config) because the 3 stores around here most likely would not stock *exactly* what I want...
So basically, I can order a Corvette Passive/Passive and then have a luthier fit it with active EMG pickups and also an active preamp? (Without drilling anything)
From what I hear, when you order a Warwick from Basscentre (UK) it takes about 3-4 weeks, but the Warwick factory builds it brand new so you get the exact colour you want!
So effectively you're getting custom shop instrument, but with the standard options...
Always nice to have an instrument...
Damn, these LXs have the craziest wood patterns I've ever seen! Looks way cooler than even the insanely high grades of maple (in my opinion). Check this one out:
Are all the 2009 ones like this? The one in the link looks a bit prettier than the LX on the Warwick site.
Hi all,
I've been looking at the Warwick Custom Shop options, and "Karelian Birch" has caught my eye...
Can anyone here fill me in on the sound properties of this wood? Sounds like a cool idea having a Corvette with a 3/8" Karelian Birch top...
Also, while I'm at it. What is the...
Hi Folks,
Just wondering what are the main differences between a Standard (Ash) Corvette 5 and a Streamer LX5? Mainly in terms of sound (Bubinga is not an option).
I know that the LX4 has a different pickup config, but I'm only interested in the 5-string version at this point...
I've been...
Sorry about the confusion - I haven't actually bought this bass yet!
It's on sale at a store and I was trying to find details about it, but couldn't dig up anything! So I don't have a serial number at all.
