A guitarist friend of mine just bought a bass and I wanted to recommend an amp to start off with for less than 1000.00, but don’t want him to have a bad experience with something that doesn’t sound good.

Myself I got something good when I started but later bought a low-watt Acoustic for practice sessions at a friends house. I didn’t like that for the sound and wound up giving it to a luthier friend for bass customers to sound check their stuff.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I really really like the cheap Warwick BC combos. I have a 20W one home, best practice amp ever, and it can be pretty loud, I actually managed to do some not so loud rehearsals with a drummer. They have a sans-ampish sound, and a cool built in auto compression.

Heard great things about the Warwick combos. Blackstar stuff is supposed to be good for the price and size too.
