Hi there!

Since a couple of months, when I play the low B, there's a kind of rattling.. drriiinng
It only occurs when I play the low B idle. As soon as I play a fretted note, there's no noise. If I tune it down half a note or up.. no noise either. If I tune it down with the Hipshot d-tuner (so low A), no noise. If I let tuned with the d-tuner on A, and then tune up manually to B... guess? Noise!
So WTF! Is there someone living in my Streamer who doesn't like low B's?

I didn't use other string gauges. It even occured sometimes with the first ever string set. Didn't play with the trussrod, bridge or nut.
Since I read somewhere here on the forum, that the brass nut could generate some kind of noise, I raised it a little. But the noise is still there. The string doesn't accidentally touch the frets when played idle.

When I push the string down between the nut and the machinehead, the noise stops!

So any, really any help is much appreciated.

Have a nice sunday!

had the same problem on my ssI 6-string with a jan-2 nut. i guess this appears only with the jan-2. use a strap around the nut area or cut a small piece of a rubberband of and place it between the string and nut.

Another thing is to cut your strings a bit longer when you are installing them. This way they get one or two more winds around the tuner and thus put more pressure on the nut which can make that buzzing cease to exist since the adjustable screw now has more tension on it. This worked for me on my SSII with brass JANII.

now when you mentioned that, everything's getting clear. my 6er ssI was setted up after a electronic checkup at gc and they cutted off less as i usually do. you never learn out:)

my formula for strings-length:
tailpiece-tuner + 10cm.
worked out for years!

cheers,

I'm a bit surprised, since Warwick says something about 8 cm if I remember well? I must admit, that I've cut the strings way shorter, but so were the original strings. I understand the idea about "more winds = more tension". I'll try that. Tough luck for my new EMP low B ...

More tension?
It is rather a different angle

Yeah. But I believe that due to the angle, the strings' tension on the nut will grow. Anyway, I'll give it a try.

What nut is that? The old JAN1 with individual adjusting screws? If yes, my solution was to glue the screws :)

It's the actual brass nut. The bass is less than a year old.

that's a good idea to do with a jan1 and I think I'll do it because when I change string or do a cleanup n'wax (I remove the string when I do) the screws turn and mess my setup... I put a tape on the nut to keep them at the right place... I won't put that much glue just in case I would need to change the setup but thanks !!

I had this problem with mine. Just raise the nut very slightly so the two plates aren't touching on the B side.

I changed a tuner & used the nut belonging to the previous tuner & it has less threads, leaving the washer to rattle. Little bastard took my 30 minutes to isolate.
