I know the looks are questionable, but I'm more concerned about sound. I'm looking for a more open, airy sound. I'm trying to keep an open mind, and was honestly thinking about ignoring warwick all together, but the SC spiked my interest. I'm also considering MTD, Jerzy Drozd, Fodera, and some other luthiers. Lemme know what you guys think!

My bad...I meant to post this in the bass section, not the custom shop area.

I think you should never ignore Warwick. We are able to deliver incredible "boutique" bass sounds, for the price of stock basses :)

Anyway, I will have one at my shop, since the contest winner lives in the heart of Transilvania, one hour driving from my home. I will let you know how it sounds, and ask him necely to record some nice clips for you.

Cheers,

Flo

The whole price isn't necessarily true. An MTD or Jerzy Drozd is about the same price as the single cut. You can even get some of those cheaper. Fodera is a whole other story though...

I played one at the NY custom shop.

First off, it looks a lot less goofy in person. It's very curvy and sexy.
It is brighter and more open than the original Thumb(still focused though). It's a very clear bass.
I didn't really mess with the switches (I am a bridge pup and leave it there guy), but I would imagine it is capable of numerous modern tones.

Oh yeah! I

@Greg. I've decided to wait until I can get my hands on things. Like I said, I'll be in new york city, so I want to be able to play things before I decide. The music I'm playing and work I'm getting, people want five strings, so a SC sig wouldn't work too well...

I wouldn't say a Fodera sounds "open" -- sounds like a Fodera. Hard to explain, but it's a unique sound

Greg, I was just trying to get an idea of how it sounds, whether or not I should waste time trying to get my hands on one. By SC sig I meant Stanley Clake, not Singlecut. I don't know if you saw that...but w/e. Ive yet to play the new wick necks so i'm excited about that too.

Too bad the Single Cut is available as 5 and 6 strings. Oh wait, did you say 5 strings? ;)

I don't know if you'd seen this already or not, Andrew, but this video that Dzsotika filmed at Namm 2010 should give you a heads-up about the SC's sound :

I may be biased about this but I think the SC will sound great

I had the chance to play this bass at the Summer NAMM in Nashville for 3 days at the Warwick booth and just got my Singlecut 6...

My take is that it melds very well into any genre you play, super comfortable, balanced and reactive to your playing. Depending on how you set it up will evaluate how it can sound. The coil tapping on the pickups is very useful if you need a quick boost or you just want to impart a different tone at the flick of a switch. As always the woods that Warwick chooses are very top notch, very well figured and attractive. I normally play a 5 string custom made of walnut so the weight isn't an issue, especially since swamp ash is chosen for the body. On all accounts i feel that this is an amazing bass that isn't touched as far as production models are concerned. Brass JAN III and all. Great Bass.

Long story short, I love it! My first 6'er and i'm spoiled to have it as my first.

Hi i am a owner of a SC made in may ! I love it but the neck pickup coiuld be more near the fingerboard ! I also want to tell you that the switching is One coil-both coil-other coil like the Corvette twin jazz LTD ! I woiuld prefer single - serie- parrallel and both pickups in parrallel in order to have a big fat sound like Anthony Jackson !
A very nice and not heavy bass ! maybe il will go for other pickups with open coils and a preamp with a bassy mid frequencie ?

I love it

Ni Nicolas,

Congratulations (and thanks!) for your purchase.

Our specialists worked a lot to make the best possible bass, having the "new jazz" musician in mind. We prefer the pickups moved to the bridge side - kid of a Warwick thing :)

I suggest you give some time to this bass, play it with flat controls at the beginning, get used to his native sound. It is a Warwick, it is Fat and it cuts through the mix like .... like... well you have the idea :)
When you have both coils, those are parallel, so you can actually have both pickups in parallel.

The parallel is also the most used mode on humbuckers, so I don't think you lose too much by not having serial, but you gain some sweet spots in single coil mode.

Welcome to the forum :)
