While I agree, and I am in no way defending a ripoff, I also doubt anyone looking to buy a Warwick is going to opt for that instead (unless they are 12 years old and just starting to learn).

In terms of if being random scrap wood, I'm sure it is! That's not too disimiliar to what Gibson and Fender do when they know a body will be painted in a solid colour (no need to do fancy matching of the wood with great grain patterns etc). Only these people didn't paint it over.

I have seen older Warwick products with similar grain tho. Nowadays this doesn't happen anymore.

I do wonder if the tuners and straplocks on the copy are as bad as Warwicks. =)

That's true, most Fender Elite basses in natural have the same problem, and those are relatively expensive industry standard basses.

Likewise. There's more than touch of deception
in cloning a widely recognized shape ... but if it
sets up and plays, and lasts a few years, it's well
worth that very low asking price. I cannot agree
with the title of this thread.

And altho it is kinda deceptive, all imitation is
definitely a form of tribute. Someone will play
it and potential bass buyers in the audience will
see "a Warwick" on stage, which will ultimately
sell more Wicks than clones.

One thing in its favor: You can clean it with any
household cleaning product you might have at
hand and not be crucified by The Anal Faithful.

PK Decrees: No harm, no foul.

They do list it as a REPLICA.
A nod toward honesty there.
But the "W" on the headstock
is toadally waaaaay wrong.

Somewhere in the add it says it is a modified 97 Warwick. They posted pics with the mod, it is a streamer LX with a fancy finish. Rober Trujillo Tribute Bass - let's get Purple!

So it is a sig replica but a genuine Warwick, and Streamer LX is a pretty good bass. They were a Metallica tribute band, so they needed a lookalike bass, now they probably afford the real deal and sold this.
A bit expensive though.

Indeed there is a serial number on the headstock. But the paint job is terrible. I would not pay a dime for it.

I have paid 9,000 dimes for an ax with a terrible
paint job .... coincidentally also purple. It's a very
great ax other than the paint job, and could well
have cost me 14,000 dimes in original finish. And
acoarst if you are actually close enuf to notice the
3rd rate paint job, the security staff should usher
you off of the stage.

If you would pay 14.000 dimes for a bad painted 1997 Warwick Streamer LX your wife would you usher you off of the stage, wouldn’t she?

Altho you have jumbled up the numbers in my post,
the bottom line is that I have no such wifely problem.

The lady occasionally accused of being my wife once
bought herself a pair of 21 inch 1200W self powered
subs, against my perhaps too-polite vocal objections.
$2500 for the pair.

RE: Jumbled up price numbers for my
purple bass ... correct reading is:
New retail: $2400
Used, clean: $1400
Bad purple: $900

Bottom line, for $500 I could easily get a
really fantastic one-off refin. ... Thaz the
same bottom line as buying a clean used
example for $1400, yes ? And it's an even
better deal than that, cuz it would be my
own one-off custom commission, yes ?

But I choose to spend the $500 on some
other indulgence and just rock the Purple
Pig in its current finish.

OTOH if it was "wife's" ax, she'd go $500
for vanity without a blink. She spent 3X
that cost to close a slight gap in her teeth.
Exactly same gap as Esperanza Spalding.
$1500 ... just to avoid being mistaken for
Esperanza ? Reeeeeeally ? [Yes. Really.]

My wife bought a house in Italy, so I’m on the safe side for a loooong time! :p
